Downspouts, elbows, and various other "connectors" are what allow the water from the gutter to be moved to a safe distance from the building.

Because it consists of various components, it is sometimes considered a "system" of it's own. The Leader Head noted in the picture to the left is purely decorative in this case, although they are often used to bring multiple feeds from a gutter to a single downspout.

And yes, we have available all the bits and pieces that are required for installation, from gutter outlets to pipe bands, to rivets and sealant.

Size and shapes:
Downspouts and elbows are available in various shapes, sizes, colors, and materials. From a size perspective, the bigger the downspout is, the more water it can carry. If your downspout is too small, the gutter will simply back up and water will spill out over the edge, defeating the entire reason for having the gutter in the first place.

Rectangular come in the following sizes, in both a smooth and corrugated finish:
  • 2" x 3" rectangular
  • 3" x 4" rectangular
  • 4" x 5" rectangular
Round downspouts are typically installed as follows, and also are available with a smooth or corrugated finish:
  • 3" diameter round
  • 4" diameter round

Elbows
Elbows provide the necessary bended components to the system. Traditional Metals provides elbows at any desired angle in order to provide the best fit and the most aesthetic looking installation.

We also provide "Offset" elbows, which are essentially two elbows manufactured as one component. In other words, instead of using three pieces to connect from the gutter to the downspout (which is attached to the wall of the building), we can provide that component as a single unit - this enhances the look of the system by eliminating connections and edges.

The picture on the right is an example of an "offset" elbow. That single component connects the gutter to the downspout providing a very clean look.

Round vs Rectangular Downspouts and Elbows
Usually Half-Round gutter will be installed with Round downspouts, and K-Style gutter with rectangular downspouts. But sometimes, depending on the structure and the desired look, a K-Style gutter will be installed with a Round downspout as in the picture below.

Materials:
  • Copper - The most stunning of all gutter and downspout materials and is extremely durable. Over time the copper patina evolves into a very attractive and natural "weathered" look that is often mimicked with other materials.
  • Aluminum - This non-corrosize versatile material allows for the gutter to be painted virtually any color. It is a light-w Typically the material is painted electrostatically.
  • Galvanized Steel - For the rugged "industrial" look, there is nothing like the look of Galvanized Steel. It is tough, clean, and simply looks great.
